The Broadcom®  NetXtremeTM  II 5709 NIC supports multiple functions over a unified fabric to help simplify network management, reduce costs and is easily deployable. It features TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) technology for Windows®  that offloads the TCP/IP processing from the server CPU onto the LAN adapter. A NIC with TOE technology helps preserve valuable CPU cycles for applications processing and improves overall server performance and network efficiency. In turn, this helps to preserve customer investments in applications, manageability, and security.

The NetXtreme II 5709 NIC also provides iSCSI Host Bus Adapter (HBA) functionality by offloading the iSCSI block level storage processing onto the NIC and running iSCSI through the existing Ethernet infrastructure. Remote Boot and Wake on LAN capability enables remote system setup and maintenance which can reduce the costs of on-site service visits. Smart Load Balancing helps increase throughput and fault tolerance when network interface cards are configured to work together as a team to share traffic and eliminate bottlenecks. Receive Side Scaling (RSS) enables packet receive processing to scale with the number of available processors.

These features have been designed to meet the specifications outlined in the Microsoft®  Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack. The NetXtreme II 5709 Dual Port Ethernet PCI-Express NIC helps preserve your existing networking environment: operating systems, network administration tools, core cabling, personnel training, etc., while increasing network functionality.
