Dell Foundation Contributes to Edmonton's Centre High School
The Dell Foundation has approved a $35,000 grant to Edmonton's Centre High School for its ongoing career development programs in the technology sector.
The donation was announced during the celebration event at the school by Garry MacIntosh, who leads Dell relationship efforts with Centre.
Attendees included the new Alberta Minister of Education, the chairman, acting superintendent and several board members from Edmonton Public Schools and a number of other sponsors and business partners with the school.
School principal Ray Cimolini expressed his thanks for Dell's ongoing commitment to career education at Centre High, which provides education for older students who did not complete their education in regular high schools, or who require skill refreshers to prepare for further studies.
Dell Recruiting 500 Customer Support Pros For Ottawa Centre
Dell is recruiting 500 technical support professionals and creating additional training programs for its 1,000-person Ottawa customer contact centre.
The centre's staff development and recruitment plans are part of an incremental $150 million company-wide investment this fiscal year to improve customer experience, and the added responsibility to support Dell's latest high-performance XPS computers.
The investment includes broader support policies, which have been expanded to software and applications that are factory-installed on Dell systems. Software issues generate 80 percent of Dell's support requests.
Dell's customer support centres are also using sophisticated remote-diagnostic tools such as DellConnectTM . The new technology enables support representatives to access a customer's system, with permission, via a broadband connection to remotely troubleshoot with a high degree of accuracy and customer satisfaction.
These investments are creating new skill requirements for Dell's customer support agents worldwide.
"We're providing direct-to-customer technical support for a growing number of Dell customers around the world who have increasingly complex issues," said Michael Jaillet, Ottawa site director. "To meet our goal to resolve every customer issue in one contact, we're elevating our skills; locally, this means additional career training and hiring agents with advanced hardware and networking skills, and operating system certification."
Dell is seeking employees who have at least two years of experience with CompTIA A+ certification or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification. The company also provides extensive training for new hires and annual refresher training.
